‘Bend but not Break’: Golden Knights Squeeze Out Another One-Goal Win, 3-2, Over Washington Capitals Before 18,399 Monday

Another home game, another tough one-goal win for the Vegas Golden Knights.
This time, it was a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals before 18,399 fans at a 3 p.m. matinee game Monday.
The win follows a 6-5 win over St. Louis and a 1-0 victory over the New York Islanders.
VGK coach Pete DeBoer said the Knights “bend but not break” ability in the third period after the Caps scored twice to pull within a goal was impressive. Here’s DeBoer’s post-game comments:
VGK defenseman Nick Holden scored his fifth goal of the season and Knights forward Reilly Smith added his 23rd goal in period one.
Then VGK centerman William Karlsson set up linemate Max Pacioretty for Patches’ 27th to give the Golden Knights a 3-0 lead in the second period.

Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury sealed the win with his gold pads, noting VGK defenseman Nate Schmidt saved the gold goalie pads from the auction block for a Knights fund-raiser Tuesday night called a Knight to Remember. Here’s more Fleury post-game comments:

With the 3 p.m. start Monday on Presidents Day, lots of kids were in the crowd.

That’s Arnold, more than 70 years old and the most active usher in the Big Ice House doling out the high-fives to one and all.
Lots of Caps fans in the Big Ice House. They saw T.J. Oshie score twice in period three, his 23rd and 24th of the season. But VGK goalie Marc-Andre Fleury closed the deal for the 3-2 win. The Knights now have 70 points with a 31-22-8 record.
