LAS VEGAS, Nevada — It’s a newsy week on the stadium front here in Las Vegas.
Later today the NFL Las Vegas Raiders will be asking the Las Vegas stadium board for $75 million in public dollars to help build a $158 million plaza entrance at their Allegiant Stadium, while the MLB Athletics shared photos and videos of the second installation of a steel truss arch at their $2 billion domed ballpark under construction at the southeast corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue.
The A’s are hoping to complete the $2 billion, 33,000-fan stadium at the former Tropicana hotel site for the 2028 MLB season.

Both the Raiders and A’s received public subsidies from Nevada and Southern Nevada to help build their stadiums. Under a 2016 state law, the Raiders built their 62,000-seat stadium with a $750 million contribution from Southern Nevada. The Raiders want another $75 million in hotel room tax revenues to help build a plaza entranceway on the north side of Allegiant Stadium.
Meanwhile, the A’s received a $380 million government assistance package under a 2023 bill approved by Nevada lawmakers to help them build their stadium on a nine-acre footprint at the 35-acre site on the Strip.
Here are photos from the A’s showing the second truss arch going into place.

Unfortunately for both the Raiders and A’s, stadium subsidies do not deliver winning teams, so far. The Raiders had the worst record in the NFL in 2025, while the A’s currently have the worst record in the 30-team Major League Baseball after losing to the Kansas City Royals, 9-7, Wednesday. The A’s were losing again to the Royals again today, 6-2, in the bottom of the fifth inning.
-
The A’s have lost three straight, seven of the last nine and 16 of the last 20…are 9-36 (.200) over the last 45 games dating back to June 27 after going 40-42 (.476) over the first 82 contests.
-
The A’s are 49-78 (.386) overall, which is the lowest winning percentage in the majors…are a season-low 29 games under .500 for the first time since finishing the 2023 season 62 games under (50-112)…are fifth place in the American League West.
But the truss arches are going into place at their Las Vegas stadium construction site.
