The Golden Knights entered their game against Chicago tonight in the position to snag third place in the Pacific Division and a first-round date with the Edmonton Oilers with wins Tuesday and against the Anaheim Ducks Thursday.

Just the facts: Vegas Golden Knights 3 Chicago Blackhawks 1

Golden Knights goal scorers: VGK steady defenseman Brayden McNabb scored the game’s only goal through the first two periods when he slipped the puck past Chicago goalie Petr Mrazek for his fourth of the season. In the third period, VGK forward Michael Amadio scored his 14th when he picked up the puck, raced in on Mrazek and fired a precision shot that beat the Chicago netminder. Nic Roy sealed the win with an empty-netter with 1:36 left, his 13th.

Story line: It was not a work of art, but Vegas took care of business to score two points behind goalie Logan Thompson and be one win away from securing third place in the division. Chicago scored with just less than four minutes left in the game before the Roy empty-netter.

Attendance and Jack Eichel BobbleHead Night: 18,222

VGK record: 45-28-8 for 98 points with one game remaining against Anaheim Thursday.

VGK coach Bruce Cassidy postgame comments: “Playoff hockey to be anywhere is unbelievable.” He said Adin Hill will start in goal against Anaheim Thursday.

Playoff outlook: If Knights win Thursday, they play Edmonton in the first round with the Oilers holding the home ice advantage. VGK defeated the Oilers in Round 2 last season en route to their Stanley Cup championship.
