Las Vegas Motor Speedway Says NASCAR Event March 5-7 Will Have Fans, But Won’t Say How Many Can Attend

For some reason the folks who run Las Vegas Motor Speedway don’t like to say how many people actually attend their car races.

And even after getting permission from local and state authorities to have fans for a March 5-7 NASCAR event, Las Vegas Motor Speedway still won’t say how many fans will be able to attend the races during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“An exact number hasn’t been determined at this time,” Speedway spokesman Jeff Motley said.

All they would say is that a limited number of fans who do attend have to wear masks, maintain social distance and get their temperatures taken at the gate.

A Speedway release said, “Seating will be extremely limited.”

But unlike other sports organizations in Las Vegas, the Speedway did not say how many fans will be allowed.

Gov. Steve Sisolak’s directive on loosening COVID-19 restrictions said sports event organizers can request large gathering events of up to 20 percent of capacity. The Speedway has more than 70,000 capacity so at least 14,000 fans would be allowed if the Speedway gets permission for the full 20 percent.
