Person Involved In Las Vegas Lights FC Soccer Game Tests Positive For COVID-19 Virus, Tonight’s Las Vegas vs. San Diego Game Postponed

The COVID-19 coronavirus has grounded Saturday’s Las Vegas Lights FC vs San Diego Loyal SC soccer game at Cashman Field in downtown Las Vegas.

The Lights posted this message on Instagram Saturday afternoon. The team said a “covered individual scheduled to be involved in tonight’s match tested positive for COVID-19, as part of weekly routine testing.” No other explanation is provided. The Lights did not say who the “covered individual” is.

The Lights are part of the United Soccer League, the Triple A of professional soccer one level below Major League Soccer. The team says it can’t disclose disclose the individual’s identity because of the agreement with the players association.

The USL is playing games without a controlled pandemic bubble environment with strict protocols, which is being used by the NHL, NBA and WNBA. The league is having teams only play other clubs that are in the same region of the country. So, the Lights are only playing games against teams from states like California, for example.

We reached out to Lights owner Brett Lashbrook for a comment Saturday, but did not hear back. The novel coronavirus has claimed the lives of 160,000 Americans.
