They’re a Las Vegas Odd Couple.

Raiders super fan/Laborers 872 union ringleader Tommy White and Clark County Commissioner/stadium marijuana lounge advocate Tick Segerblom don’t see eye-to-eye on many political topics, but the duo was brought together by the power of doughnuts late Thursday afternoon at the grand opening of a west valley doughnut shop.

“Donuts bring everyone together,” observed Judith Siegel, co-owner of Pinkbox Doughnuts, which inaugurated its third shop at 9435 W. Tropicana Avenue. The two other doughnut stores are in Henderson and north Summerlin.

Siegel said she’s open to looking at doughnut shops at new stadiums, arenas and sports venue in Las Vegas. Local eateries are making in-roads at Las Vegas sports venues like Pizza Forte at the Aviators ballpark and T-Mobile Arena.

Segerblom would love to see a marijuana lounge at the new Raiders’ Allegiant stadium, which is scheduled to open for the 2020 NFL season in Las Vegas across Interstate 15 from the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino.

But the former state legislator lamented a state law approved during the last session that doesn’t allow lounges in public places for two years.  Segerblom said the Nevada Resort Association (the other NRA) was instrumental in enacting the state law banning marijuana lounges for two years.

Meanwhile, Las Vegas stadium authority board member White opposes a lounge at the Raiders’ 65,000-fan, domed stadium, which is being built thanks to hundreds of Laborers 872 hardhats. White has been a big advocate for the publicly-subsidized stadium and 872 is a sponsor of local teams such as the Vegas Golden Knights, Las Vegas Aviators and Las Vegas Aces.

White supported Laborers Local 872 official Marco Hernandez in his June 2018 political primary race against Segerblom for a seat on the county’s governing board, but Hernandez lost the county commission District E primary to Segerblom by a mere 181 votes.

White said Segerblom will be challenged in the Democratic primary when his county commission seat is up for grabs the next time in 2022.

But on Thursday, the duo enjoyed the doughnuts and White especially liked the one with “Raiders’ on it.
