It took players totally buying into the goofy hokeyness of it all, several departments working together and some mighty fine video editing to pull off the Vegas Golden Knights’ spoof of the classic Happy Days TV show intro and releasing the new “Hockey Days” video Wednesday on Twitter.

With the season-opener Thursday at T-Mobile Arena only a day away, the Golden Knights’ Hockey Days video conjured up memories of the old Happy Days show, which ran from 1974-84 on ABC and featured Ron Howard, Henry Winkler and Tom Bosley.

In the Golden Knights’ modern video version of the record-spinning intro, you get the sense that Nate Schmidt could play Richie Cunningham, Max Pacioretty or William Karlsson could play The Fonz and Jon Merrill could play Richie’s sidekicks, Potsie or Ralph.

The Golden Knights have had fun with its videos, which included one that goofed on the team mascot, Chance, last year and even included team owner Bill Foley in that one.

VGK Chief Marketing Officer Brian Killingsworth had this to say about the Hockey Days video: “The Hockey Days piece was an incredible video feature that our Content, Creative and Entertainment teams collaborated on to make happen. We are very proud of the work that was done to recreate the classic Happy Days intro and our team’s personality shined through the entire video and we think it is a great way to kick off the season.”

While the video brought smiles to VGK fans, the second-year team was preparing to roll out the “gold” carpet Thursday afternoon outside T-Mobile Arena for the 2018-19 season opener.

At last year’s home-opener on Oct. 10, 2017, there were jumbled emotions as the Golden Knights skated on home ice only nine days after the horrific mass shooting on the Strip. There was pain and emotional hurt mixed in with the subdued excitement of an inaugural season.

But this year, one year removed, the team will have a more festive atmosphere at the home-opener as the Western Conference and Pacific Division banners will be unveiled.
