Golden Knights owner Bill Foley is clear about the VGK’s season two goal: “I expect to win the Stanley Cup.”

Foley offered that seven-word expectation for the NHL expansion team’s sophomore year after signing several hundred inaugural season books during a Friday afternoon 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. signing event at the Golden Knights’ training center and headquarters, also called City National Arena.

Here’s the nearly three-minute Foley chat. That’s KSNV Channel 3 sports reporter Amber Dixon asking questions.

Foley expects to win the league’s crown in 2018-19 — and why not?

The Golden Knights were a mere three wins away from winning the NHL championship in year one, losing in the Finals to Stanley Cup champ Washington Capitals.

Foley said 22 of the first 36 games were on the road this season and he believed the Golden Knights are poised to make a run. The Knights Thursday night came back to defeat the New York Islanders, 4-2, after spotting the Isles a 2-0 lead after one period at T-Mobile Arena. The team is 20-15-2 and in fourth place in the Pacific Division behind Calgary, San Jose and Anaheim.

“We’re ready to go,” Foley said. ”

He said it was “fantastic” that Seattle received a new NHL franchise (Seattle begins in 2021-22) and Foley noted the Seattle club will have a great rivalry with the Vancouver Canucks.

The Golden Knights will not receive any money from the Seattle franchise $650 million expansion fee, but Foley said the VGK also do not give up any players — and he said that’s the most important thing.

The affable Foley appeared to enjoy signing the inaugural book, which costs $59.99.
