LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The Las Vegas Aces are starting to gain traction in the win column, registering a third straight victory Tuesday evening with a win over the Atlanta Dream while also moving a game above .500 with a 12-11 record in their first post-All Star Game contest.
It was another loud sellout of 10,361 at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob Ultra Arena, with A’ja Wilson leading the way for the Aces with 24 points. Fellow All-Star Jackie Young added 14 points — a point total matched by guard Dana Evans, who has evolved into a nice sparkplug off the bench for the Aces.
The Aces look to be turning things around.
And numbers in several categories spell out the Aces’ winning ways.
For example, the Aces had 13 turnovers, but those yielded only five points to Atlanta. The Dream committed 19 turnovers, with Las Vegas cashing those in for 24 points.
On the defensive end, the Aces made 13 steals and blocked four Atlanta shots, while the Dream had only five steals and two blocked shots.
Aces/Raiders owner Mark Davis was in his usual courtside sitting position.
Atlanta actually grabbed a 27-20 lead after the first quarter, but Evans scored nine in a row to give the Aces a 29-27 lead. Las Vegas led by six at the half.
The Aces ballooned their lead to 14 points in the third quarter and Atlanta was not a threat in the fourth for Las Vegas’ third consecutive win. Atlanta made 38.5 percent of its shots, while the Aces were nearly 45 percent from the field, plus sinking 19 of 21 foul shots.
