LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The LVCVA will be back in its pay-to-host mode Tuesday when Las Vegas’ publicly-funded tourism board will likely approve $2 million for two video game tournaments in Las Vegas in 2028.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) has a word to describe these payments to event organizers: “sponsorship.”
The LVCVA board will likely greenlight the $2 million “sponsorship” in return for the video game producer, BLAST ApS, staging the video game action — or esports competition — in Las Vegas. For the record, it’s called, Counter-Strike Major, and this event was most recently staged in Austin, Texas.
The Las Vegas video game competition would be between Thanksgiving and early December in 2028.
Here’s the LVCVA background on the $2 million deal:

At Tuesday’s LVCVA board meeting, the LVCVA board members will also likely approve a $300,000 “sponsorship” for the event organizer of the New Balance Future Stars Series to hold baseball tournaments that include high school and college players competing before scouts and coaches from June 15, 2027 — July 15, 2027.

The meeting is 9 AM on the second Tuesday of every month at the Las Vegas Convention Center meeting room on the east side of the complex.
