LAS VEGAS, Nevada — For the third time in four years here in Las Vegas, Raiders owner Mark Davis will be introducing a new general manager and head coach to run an NFL team that struggles to win games.
The Raiders announced Friday that former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Assistant General Manager John Spytek will be their new general manager, replacing the recently fired Tom Telesco.
Spytek is a former University of Michigan teammate of Raiders minority owner/FOX broadcaster/former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who played on the Bucs where Spytek worked. The two won a Super Bowl championship together in Tampa.
Meanwhile, the Raiders said Saturday they named former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll as their new head coach.
Carroll succeeds Antonio Pierce, who was fired Jan. 7.
Davis has said that Brady would play a major role in trying to revive the Raiders.
Brady is also a game broadcaster for FOX’s NFL telecasts, which created an awkward and potential conflict of interest when he worked last weekend’s Detroit Lions playoff game because a former Lions offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, was also considered for the Raiders head coach job. Johnson took the Chicago Bears head coach job.
Exactly one year ago, Davis introduced Telesco as the general manager and Pierce as the permanent head coach after Pierce finished with a five-win, four-loss record as the interim coach in 2023.

And in late January of 2022, Davis introduced the former Patriots duo of Dave Ziegler as Raiders GM and Josh McDaniels as the head coach.
Here’s the photo from that event nearly three years ago:
Carroll is 73, but he is known for his enthusiasm and has a personality that belies his age.
He led the University of Southern California and the Seattle Seahawks to championships. Carroll also was the former head coach of the New York Jets (1994) and the Patriots (1997-99). He coached Seattle from 2010-2023, winning the 2013 NFL title.
Carroll’s Seahawks repeated as NFC champs during the 2014 season, but lost to Brady’s Patriots in that season’s Super Bowl when Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw a very memorable and controversial interception at the goal line when Seattle was on the verge on scoring the game’s winning touchdown. The Patriots won that Super Bowl a decade ago.
Now Brady is Carroll’s boss at the Raiders in 2025.
The NFL is a small world.
