UNLV is quite happy with its football coach, Barry Odom, so the university updated Odom’s contact through 2028 with new terms that include an additional year and future retention bonuses.
LVSportsBiz.com Friday morning requested the updated financial terms of the contract and here’s the Odom contract with that extra year that hits at least $1.5 million for 2028.
First, there’s a base salary:
Then, there’s income from media and public appearances:
There’s annual retention payments:
And more money for these achievements:
In a press release, UNLV Athletics Director Erick Harper was quoted as saying, “We are obviously thrilled about what Barry Odom and his staff did in year one leading Rebel football. The program is on an upward trajectory and we could not be more excited about him leading the way.”
UNLV’s football program became nationally relevant under Odom.
After the 47-year-old Odom became UNLV’s 13th head football coach in Dec. 2022, he led the Rebels to theirs most wins (9-5) since 1984, a first-place regular-season conference finish and the right to host the Rebels’ first appearance in a Mountain West Championship game.
UNLV then made its first bowl trip in a decade where it faced Kansas in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix. UNLV lost to Kansas, but Odom’s scored high grades for turning around the football program.
