Bottom line: VGK break a four game losing streak.

Golden Knights goal scorers: Pavel Dorofeyev, back in the lineup with linemates Chandler Stephenson and Matha, opened the scoring at 9:08 of the first period. It was Dorofeyev’s eighth of the season. Jonathan Marchessault converted on as 2-on-1 with Jack Eichel for his 33rd of the season to match his age. The Knights led, 2-0, before Detroit scored with less than 30 seconds left in the first period on a goal by Michael Rasmussen.

After a scoreless second period, the Knights led, 2-1, entering the third period.

Detroit tied the game at two in the third period before Brayden McNabb scored his third of the season for a VGK 3-2 lead. Detroit countered with a goal and the game was tied at three apiece. Marchessault put the VGK ahead with 34th with only 2:44 to go in the third period. Marchessault then added an empty-net goal to seal the VGK win.

Story line: Golden Knights peppered Detroit goalie James Reimer with 20 shots in the opening period. The VGK outshot Detroit, 32-13, after two periods. And Marchessault’s hat trick salted away the win after his empty-netter.
