Eight observations about Super Bowl 58 here in Las Vegas two days before the big game.

First, OK, we will do the obligatory ticket costs on the secondary ticket market story. Stub Hub had a get-in price of $6,202 — but $8,401 with the fees. Over at fee-free TicketIQ, it was a starting price of $8,483 (that’s without fees).

Second, in the Super Bowl TV commercial category, here’s a fantastic stat: The Clydesdales have been in 45 Budweiser Super Bowl TV commercials.

*

Third, the traffic, gridlock and motorists running red lights on turns were horrendous at Mandalay Bay and Las Vegas Boulevard.  What struck me was the limited transportation infrastructure serving the Strip, which has world-class entertainment/venues and small town transportation options.

*

Fourth, and related to three. Kevin Frazier from the Entertainment Tonight TV show made a cameo on Friday night’s CBS Super Bowl commercial show tonight and he quipped about a traffic report, saying there’s gridlock in the city. And you know what, Frazier was right. I saw gridlock when I left Mandalay Bay. Thank goodness I was on my bicycle pedaling past traffic to my car parked on a nearby quiet street.

Fifth, there are lots of national media doing stories on whether government giving free money to pro sports teams to build stadiums is a good financial investment. It’s a debate that played out here in Las Vegas where the public contributed $750 million to build the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium and the Nevada Legislature also approved in June a $380 million subsidy for the MLB Athletics’ stadium on the Tropicana hotel site on the Strip. Do you think stadium subsidies are a sustainable way to economic growth and do they deliver amenities for locals?

Sixth, the 49ers are considered the away team in Super Bowl 58 and will occupy the sideline normally hosting the Raiders’ opponent at Allegiant Stadium.

*

Seventh, Radio Row wrapped up Friday. A big LVSportsBiz.com shoutout to the Bounty paper towel brand for serving hundreds of boxes of chicken wings to media. Bounty literally fed radio row and the media inside the media center workroom.

*

Eighth, the most fascinating visit to Allegiant Stadium was checking out the injury video review booth on the media level.
