The much-anticipated Formula One road race on the Strip and in the Las Vegas entertainment corridor set for Nov. 18 was struck with tragedy Saturday when an ironworker doing work on temporary grandstand construction in front of the Bellagio died from an injury on the job Saturday.

“I can confirm that Nevada OSHA was notified of the fatality that occurred on Bellagio property this past Saturday and dispatched officials to open an investigation,” spokesperson Teri Williams told LVSportsBiz.com.

Officials identified the ironworker as 37-year-old Tizoc Antonio, with a local TV station saying the tragedy happened on Antonio’s first day on the job of building the grandstand for the FI race.

LVSportsBiz.com visited the site Tuesday and saw workers on the job.
