With the giant, 13-foot-long NFL Super Bowl football firmly entrenched in Las Vegas for the next year to promote Super Bowl 58 in Sin City, Las Vegas had a big announcement Wednesday about another type of bowling event that will extend to the year 2039.

Las Vegas Events, the Las Vegas tourism agency’s events arm, said the world’s best bowlers will continue coming to South Point Hotel’s bowling facility for high-level bowling tournaments through 2039.

The United States Bowling Congress, which oversees the bowling championships, has extended its deal with Las Vegas Events and South Point. That means the USBC Open and Women’s Championships will continue to be staged at he South Point Bowling Plaza, a 60-lane tournament venue at the hotel-casino property as part of the current three-year cycle.

“When we opened the Tournament Bowling Plaza in 2016, we knew it was going to be an amazing addition to the sports landscape in Las Vegas,” South Point General Manager Ryan Growney said.

Mark your calendars for the next 16 years.

The Open Championships are set for South Point in 2024, 2027, 2030, 2033, 2036 and 2039.

The Women’s Championships will be hosted there for 2023, 2026, 2029, 2032, 2035 and 2038.

This year’s 2023 Women’s Championships are scheduled for April 23 to July 2.

The agreement also will bring 16 of USBC’s short-duration events to other properties across Las Vegas between 2023 and 2039.

Las Vegas Events President Tim Keener noted the women’s bowling championship in Las Vegas dates back to 1973 — 50 years ago.

Keener: “From the first Women’s Championships held in Las Vegas in 1973 and 1983 to the Open Championships in 1986 and then again in 2009, through the multi-tiered agreement that brought top-tier competition since 2015, Las Vegas has become a premier destination for the USBC.”
