It’s tough competing against the news of the demise of a big social media platform like Twitter, and for two periods the Vegas Golden Knights slumbered their way to a 1-0 lead over an Arizona Coyotes squad.

But the Golden Knights livened things up in period three with goals by William Carrier, Mark Stone and Reilly Smith after defenseman Alex Pietrangelo had scored the game’s sole goal in the first 40 minutes of action.

“They play hard,” Stone said after the win. “It’s good to be back on the winning track.”

The Golden Knights salvaged the final game of a three-game homestand with a 3-1 win over the Coyotes — the eighth straight win by the Knights over Arizona at the Big Ice House by the Strip.

And speaking of streaks, the VGK’s veteran winger, Phil Kessel, played in his 1000th straight game and received a big bottle of wine from VGK owner/winemaker Bill Foley and a Vegas-inspired award created by Heritage Stick Company. Technically speaking, here was the name of the giant bottle: “It is a 3L 2014 Foley Johnson Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon etched in gold by California Etching.”

Kessel towels were on all the seats and season ticket holders received credit for free. The attendance was announced at 17,708.

Arizona broke Logan Thompson’s bid for a shutout with a goal credited to Clayton Keller. Here’s Thompson after the game.

Pietrangelo discussed the VGK controlling the center of the ice.

The Knights improved to 14-4 and head to Edmonton to play the Oilers on Saturday.

Here’s Carrier after the win.
