New Subsidized Arena In Henderson Makes Debut With Ribbon-Cutting Thursday

Well, it’s official.

Another arena in the Las Vegas market is open for business.

This one is in the city of Henderson, where Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley opened a new $84 million venue called Dollar Loan Center for his other Foley, Inc. products like the Henderson Silver Knights minor league hockey team and the Vegas Knight Hawks indoor football team.

Bill Foley built the new arena in Henderson.

The city of Henderson paid $42 million in public dollars for the $84 million arena, which received an official ribbon-cutting Thursday and Mayor Debra March’s state-of-the-city speech at noon. The Foley sports and entertainment organization enlisted VGK TV play-by-play broadcaster Dave Goucher to emcee the ribbon-cutting event at 10:45AM.

In his ribbon-cutting comments, Foley called the arena a “low-impact” building in regard to the height of the arena in the mixed residential-and-commercial neighborhood. It took 18 months to build the venue.

“Hey, I love the name, Dollar Loan Center, cool,” cracked Chuck Brennan, the founder of the short-term loan Dollar Loan Center business chain who paid for the naming rights for the arena. Brennan also donated $50,000 to the people who helped build the venue.

March and Foley noted the city will also use the building to host community events like graduations and concerts.

Dollar Loan Center is at 200. S. Green Valley Parkway, very close to the The District shopping area off the 215 Beltway.

Curious about the parking? LVSportsBiz.com did this story on the arena’s parking report.

The arena’s first ticketed event is the Big West college basketball tournament March 8.

The new Knight Hawks team plays its first game in the arena March 18, while the Silver Knights — the VGK minor league farm team — start play in Henderson in April.

The arena was built at the site of the old Henderson Pavilion, which was razed to make room for the arena.
