It’s 8:20 AM Saturday and Drew the Raiders fan wearing the Josh Jacobs 28 black jersey has been on line since 6:30 AM to straighten things out on his COVID-19 vaccination app so that he can pass through the turnstile at Allegiant Stadium tomorrow and watch the Silver & Black try for win number three against the Miami Dolphins.

The Las Vegas Raiders’ “alternate screening” tent in a stadium lot at Hacienda and Polaris avenues is seeing lots of action. With the Raiders requiring fans to show proof of vaccination via the Clear app, the NFL team set up the tent to help fans work out any issues with the app before home games. For the Raiders-Ravens Monday Night Football game Sept. 13, the Raiders said 6,000 fans got their first vax shot so that they could be part of the crowd of 61,756.

The tent was scheduled to open at 9 AM and about 10 people were waiting to chat with the app workers today.

Drew, who noted he got his first COVID vax shot at a local Las Vegas Wal-Mart, said he grew up a Raiders fan. “When I was a baby I wore Raiders onsies,” he explained of his fan cred.

He came early to make sure that the first shot was documented on his app so that he could attend Sunday’s 1 PM game between the Raiders and Dolphins.

The Raiders’ thrilling MNF win against Baltimore in overtime and a solid victory over the Steelers in Pittsburgh has stoked Silver & Black fans. The Raiders’ revamped defense led by newcomers Solomon Thomas and Yannick Ngakoue on the line, Denzel Perryman and K.J. Wright at linebacker and Casey Hayward at cornerback has fans excited after the Raiders defense last year ranked near the bottom of the NFL’s defensive statistics. Holdovers like veteran quarterback Derek Carr and defensive end Maxx Crosby are off to hot starts, too.

The screening tent is open until 2 PM Saturday and will be open again Sunday from 9 AM – 2 PM on game day. Raiders President Dan Ventrelle said about 700 season ticket holders representing 1,800 tickets asked for a refund or rolled over their season ticket accounts to 2022 in response to the Raiders’ vaccination requirement.

The Buffalo Bills last week also said fans age 12 and older will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination to attend Bills home games this season. For Bills home games on Sept. 26 and Oct. 3, fans will be permitted to enter with one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Beginning with the Oct. 31 game, guests must be fully vaccinated to attend a home game. Media reports said 762 Bills season ticket holders requested refunds.

Fans inside Allegiant Stadium for Raiders games do not have to wear masks. The Vegas Golden Knights do not require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test for fans to attend VGK games at T-Mobile Arena. The first preseason game for the Golden Knights is Sunday at T-Mobile Arena, which is about a mile and a half from Allegiant Stadium.

Workers are already working on activities at Allegiant Stadium for the Miami-Raiders game. The Dolphins defeated the Raiders last year at Allegiant Stadium in a 26-25 win on a Saturday night in Las Vegas.
