On the same day that Vegas Golden Knights season ticket holders spent hundreds of dollars to attend VGK home games in March, VGK fans also learned Wednesday that Thursday’s Golden Knights vs Sharks game in San Jose has been postponed because a Sharks player is on the NHL COVID-19 protocols list.

The Golden Knights this morning began selling tickets for seven home games at T-Mobile Arena in the month of March. These tickets will not come cheap. One fan reported on Facebook that he purchased two lower bowl seats for a VGK vs SJS game for $240 each. The tickets are not resellable or transferable, he noted.

Fans interviewed by LVSportsBiz.com said they paid more than twice the cost for their game tickets under season ticket deals — and that was even with discounts to promise not to resell the tickets.

That’s s bargain compared to the deal that another fan, Lan Beyster, got. Beyster, a hardcore superfan who organizes the Vegas Golden and Silver Knights Misfits Fan Group on Facebook, said she bought a pod of six tickets for center ice tickets for a March 29 VGK game and each seat cost about $427.

“Pricing is high. It was expected,” Beyster said.

With only 2,605 COVID-19 pandemic era seats available for seven March games in an arena that is filled to about 105 percent capacity thanks to more than 18,000 fans crammed in the venue, it was obvious the VGK ticket department had a healthy dose of leverage on its side.

This local Las Vegas sports fan put it this way on Twitter:

On Thursday, the general public will get a crack at buying single game tickets, which will start at $135 a seat.

A quarter-season ticket holder told LVSportsBiz.com: “My $98 quarter season seat near top row is today $193 plus fees and taxes ( probably another $40). I don’t get my first covid shot till Friday. But even if I had my shots I wouldn’t spend $240 to go sit in the boonies and watch a regular season hockey game.”

If fans want to resell their tickets, the Knights hope they use the VGK Ticket Exchange platform.

Meanwhile, the Golden Knights are sticking around Las Vegas Thursday because a scheduled game in San Jose was postponed. The NHL: “As a result of a San Jose Sharks Player entering the NHL’s COVID Protocols earlier today, the team’s game tomorrow night against the Vegas Golden Knights will be postponed. The decision was made by the League’s, NHLPA’s and Club’s medical groups while the League continues to analyze test results in the coming days.”

The NHL COVID-19 list included Tomas Hertl of San Jose.

The Golden Knights’ Tomas Nosek is no longer on the NHL’s COVID-19 list.

Here’s the Nevada COVID-19 numbers as of Wednesday.

In VGK business news, the franchise has a new sponsor, and this one is based south of the border. In a news release, the Knights said the “organization has entered a multi-year partnership with UpickTrade, a sports betting recommendation service, designating UpickTrade as an Official Sports Pick Service Partner of the Vegas Golden Knights. The partnership marks the first sponsorship deal between a Mexican-based company and an NHL club.  As an Official Partner of the Golden Knights, UpickTrade will be featured on Vegas Golden Knights web and social media platforms, as well as an in-game feature and in-arena branding on the boards.”

Prepared statements:

“We are thrilled to partner with UpickTrade.com and become the first professional sports franchise to partner with a sports recommendation service,” said Golden Knights Vice President of Global Partnerships Mike Mungiello. “We are hopeful our fanbase will make UpickTrade.com a part of their sports pick betting process.”

“As  an Official Sports Recommendation Pick Service of the Vegas Golden Knights, it is a historic moment in the sports betting market,” said Carlos Lazo Reyes, CEO of upicktrade.com. “We are the first sports  recommendation pick service to partner with a major professional sports franchise. The Vegas Golden Knights are a dynamic sports franchise that has been successful since their inaugural season in 2017. Our company, upicktrade.com  also began in 2017 and has now grown to over 6,000 subscribers to our sports recommendations service worldwide!”
