The Mountain West Conference football game between UNLV and Boise State at Allegiant Stadium scheduled for Friday has been canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed the lives of 273,000 Americans.

UNLV and Boise State joined the Mountain West Conference in this statement Wednesday: “Based on guidance from medical personnel and epidemiologists, Friday’s football game between UNLV and Boise State has been canceled and will not be rescheduled. Both medical teams have been in communication in order to understand the full picture of COVID issues in our region.”

The winless UNLV Rebels football team will play no more home games this season. The team under first-year coach Marcus Arroyo has lost its five games against Mountain West teams, while a UNLV game at Colorado State was also canceled.

UNLV played the first football game at Allegiant Stadium that had fans at the new 65,000-seat domed stadium, which was built by the Las Vegas Raiders and opened in late July.

The Las Vegas Bowl, which was scheduled to also be played in Allegiant Stadium, was also canceled.
