The pandemic forced Las Vegas’ vaunted hotel-casinos to go dark in April and May and even after re-opening in early June the occupancy rate has reached only 66 percent.

In the middle of this economic storm, Derek Stevens opened the 21-and-older Circa resort in downtown Las Vegas, which towers over its neighbors like Golden Nuggets and the Plaza.

Stevens is a throwback Las Vegas showman hotel owner and Circa is Old Vegas and New Vegas melded together on a full square block at Main Street and the Fremont Street Experience.

Old Vegas is the former neon sign Vegas Vickie, built at the old Glitter Gulch Casino in 1980, finding a prominent centerpiece home at Circa. Take a look at the transition.

The site needed to be cleared t make way for the 44-level Circa. It’s the tallest structure in the city of Las Vegas outside of the The Strat.

The New Vegas element is the gargantuan sportsbook, which has a monster-sized screen that you see at outdoor sports stadiums. Here’s a look at the construction site.

Let’s take a look at how Circa fits into the neighborhood.
