Two hundred free tickets for UNLV students for Saturday’s first UNLV Rebels football game at Allegiant Stadium were gobbled up in five minutes.

Meanwhile, the 1,800 other tickets for the UNLV vs UNR in-state rivalry football game at the domed, 65,000-seat venue three miles west of the UNLV campus will go on sale for Rebel Athletic Fund and season ticket holders Tuesday.

At Sam Boyd Stadium, the UNLV football team’s former home, At Sam Boyd Stadium, UNLV students also received 10 percent of capacity.

State officials told UNLV it could have fans at its first football game at Allegiant Stadium on Halloween. But the state capped the attendance at 2,000. That’s three percent of capacity of the new stadium. UNLV had requested 10 percent attendance capacity — or 6,500 seats.

Saturday’s UNLV fans will be the first football fans to attend a game at the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium because Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis said if all the fans can’t attend Raiders games at the stadium then none will.

On Saturday, the Rebels were trounced by San Diego State in the 2020 season-opener.

UNLV’s football team did not look very impressive against San Diego State, but many fans are interested in seeing Allegiant Stadium for the first time and UNLV game tickets for Saturday will sell for $110 each.
