Three Years Ago Tonight Vegas Golden Knights Played Their First Regular Season Home Game During Historic, Emotional Inaugural Season

By Alan Snel of LVSportsBiz.com

Three years ago tonight the Vegas Golden Knights played their first regular season home game, only nine days after a gunman killed 60 people at a country music festival in the Strip Oct. 1, 2017.

Emotions ran high that night on Oct. 10, 2017. Knights defenseman Deryk Engelland gave a powerful speech from the heart. The Golden Knights scored four goals in the first 12 minutes against the Arizona Coyotes and won the game, 5-2. And it was a tangible bookmark on a season of healing after gun violence resulted in the deadliest mass shooting in this country’s history.

It was a historic night  to start a historic first homestand, as the Vegas Golden Knights won eight of their first nine games and went on to the Stanley Cup Final.

My, these three years have flown by. Here’s the LVSportsBiz.com story from that historic and emotional night from three years ago.

As the Golden Knights make more changes, LVSportsBiz.com lets you take time to look back. These photos are from LVSportsBiz.com photographer Daniel Clark.

Try to not have goosebumps when you look at these photos and re-live that night.

You know it’s a special night when NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, Gov. Steve Sisolak and Blue Men Group all show up for the big night.

The Knights blew out to a 4-0 lead and the packed arena was in a frenzy.

The Arizona Coyotes players even wore the #VegasStrong mantra on their helmets.

It was a night Las Vegas will never forget.
