Three Workers At Shriners Golf Tourney COVID-19 Testing Center Seen Without Masks

By Alan Snel of LVSportsBiz.com

Three workers at a COVID-19 testing station at the Suncoast hotel-casino parking said they were testing the pro golfers in town for the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Summerlin. The annual PGA golf tourney is today through Sunday. Fans are not allowed to attend the event.

The three sat in folding chairs outside the Sanford Laboratories truck around 7:30 a.m. In the photo below, the trio are sitting behind the man in the yellow shirt setting up tables in the parking lot.

What caught my attention is that none of the three workers involved in testing the Shriners golf event competitors wore a mask.

I wore a mask when I approached them while doing a bicycle ride this morning. I was curious. I asked them why none of them wore a mask if they’re involved in testing golfers.

A woman told me they were tested and they were outdoors.

Our country has dealt with the COVID-19 novel coronavirus pandemic in a non-uniform way. The National Football League has issued statements that it will crack down on players and teams with forfeits of games and loss of draft picks if players violate coronavirus pandemic protocols.

Yet, it’s the same country that has a president who doesn’t wear a mask often — at least until he was infected with a virus that has claimed the lives of 211,000 Americans.

When I reported on the first live sports event in Las Vegas at a UFC event at UFC’s Apex building next to its headquarters in late May I was instructed to make sure I wore a mask at all times. I complied.

Same thing is in play when I reported on the first two Raiders games inside the domed Allegiant Stadium. I wore a mask at all times.

That’s why I found it unusual that three coronavirus testing workers sat on chairs outside a mobile COVID-19 testing station and I saw their faces without masks.

I hope to receive comments from the Shriners event later. This story will be updated if there’s new information.
