Golden Knights Host Make-A-Wish Kids, Former UMC Children’s Hospital Patients Monday; Plus Sports-Business Briefs

The day began Monday with about a half-dozen Make-a-Wish kids skating on the City National Arena ice with VGK players like Marc-Andre Fleury and then ended late in the afternoon with about 20 former patients from UMC Children’s Hospital officially becoming players for the Vegas Golden Knights during a special “Player for a Day” event at the Knights’ training center in Summerlin.

Former UMC kid patients hit the ice Monday.

The pediatric patients signed contracts before taking the ice for hockey and skating lessons. Some even met VGKer Alex Tuch.

LVSportsBiz.com chatted with the Knights’ goalie Marc-Andre Fleury Monday about his decision to not pursue endorsement deals like his teammates including William Karlsson, Nate Schmidt and Max Pacioretty. Even VGK forward Reilly Smith told LVSportsBiz.com that he’s driving a Lincoln SUV under an endorsement deal with a local dealer.

ROKIT Phones, creators of glasses-free 3D smartphones, has become the official phone of the Las Vegas Raiders and a founding partner of Allegiant Stadium. To mark the sponsorship announcement, ROKiT Phones took over Roman Plaza at Caesars Palace and treated unsuspecting Raiders fans and onlookers to a surprise of a lifetime.

Speaking of the NFL, the league said there are 88 million women fans of the NFL — or 47 percent of all NFL fans.

Microsoft and the NFL have also expanded their partnership. The multi-year expansion involves Microsoft working more with players via Microsoft Surface devices.

Close to home on the Las Vegas futbol scene, the Las Vegas Lights FC will have its players wear a different soccer jersey for each of the 17 home games at Cashman Field in downtown Las Vegas during the team’s season three that starts this spring.
