Las Vegas’ most recent courtship of the MLS and a Major League Soccer team will come in the form a professional soccer tournament final game played at Sam Boyd Stadium Sept. 18.

The title game for something called the “Leagues Cup” will be announced at a press conference Thursday at the Bellagio.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the local public tourism agency, has already approved spending $175,000 to help promote the game.

The Leagues Cup will include four Major League Soccer teams and four teams from the top Mexican soccer league called Liga MX playing in the tourney, with the two finalists meeting at Sam Boyd Stadium Sept. 18.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, who is pushing for a downtown MLS stadium as part of a Cashman Center redevelopment proposal, is an advocate for big-time pro soccer in Las Vegas. She will be at the announcement tomorrow. Other speakers will be LVCVA CEO Steve Hill, MLS Commissioner Don Garber and Liga MX Executive President Enrique Bonilla.
