As the Vegas Golden Knights prepare to play their first playoff Game 7 Tuesday evening in San Jose, it’s safe to say the game will be hot programming on TV and produce enviable TV hockey ratings in Las Vegas when you consider the Season 2 TV ratings for the VGK in 2018-19.

A season after the Knights shocked the NHL and its fans by going to the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season in 2017-18,  the Las Vegas market has the third highest TV ratings in the country for US hockey markets in 2018-19.

Let’s take a closer look:

  • AT&T Sports Net Local TV Ratings: 4.2 avg. HH rating (82 regular season games) (+121% YOY) – 1.9 avg. HH rating during 2017-18 regular season. In 2017, VGK owner Bill Foley declared Las Vegas would be the hockey market for the Rocky Mountains when the Golden Knights signed a regional deal with AT&T Sports Net. Many scoffed at the Rocky Mountains region quip, but it’s hard to argue now.
  • Sixteen (16) regular season games were rated a 5.0 avg. HH rating or above in 2018-19.
  • Seven (7) regular season games were rated a 5.5 avg. HH rating or above this season.
  • The Golden Knights ranked third among NHL teams in the United States during the 2018-19 regular season —  jumping  seven spots from their inaugural season.
  • During this season’s playoffs, thes Golden Knight have increased their Round 1 viewership on ATTSN by 31.2 percent over last year’s Round 1 sweep against the L.A. Kings. — an 8.4 in Season 2 against the Sharks vs. 6.4 in Season 1 against the Kings.
  • And during Game 6 game against the Sharks at T-Mobile Arena, the Golden Knights saw an 11.8 average HH ratings on AT&T Sports Net and peaking at a 14.2 percent average HH ratings in the final minutes of the second overtime.

“The Las Vegas market has gotten behind this team in a truly remarkable way,” Golden Knights Chief Marketing Officer Brian Killingsworth said Tuesday. “The ratings help illustrate the incredible support, interest and passion that exists in Southern Nevada for NHL hockey and the Vegas Golden Knights.”

The Golden Knights also had a stellar season with attendance and ticket revenue as the VGK averaged 18,318 fans a game, filling T-Mobile Arena to 105.5 percent of capacity — second highest capacity percent in the NHL this season.

By the way, there’s still lots of tickets available on the secondary market for Game 7 at SAP Center in downtown San Jose. As of 3:30 pm Vegas/San Jose time, tickets were available starting as low as $143.55 on StubHub.
