An upset VGK coach Gerard Gallant asked what happened to the Misfits the last time Winnipeg Jets visited T-Mobile Arena and vanquished the Golden Knights, 6-3.

But Thursday night, Gallant was in a much better mood after the Golden Knights won their 10th game out of the last 11 and flipped the script on the Jets with a 5-0 shutout before 18,430 fans at the Big Ice House on the Strip. It was VGK goalie Malcolm Subban’s first career shutout.

During his postgame presser, a smiling Gallant actually cracked a joke and exhibited some rare humor to the media by cracking he wears his blue suit — or whatever his wife lays out or him.  Here’s Gallant during his presser.

VGK’s Reilly Smith scored to make it 2-0.

The Knights improved to 42-27-5 for 89 points — just three points behind the Jets’ 92 points. Vegas appears locked into the third spot in the Pacific Division behind Calgary and San Jose, but the VGK could catch the Jets’ point total — an important factor in the event the two teams stage a rematch of their Western Conference Final from last season. Check out VGK defenseman Nick Holden’s postgame comments on VGK goalie Malcolm Subban’s big saves and his ice time.

Indeed, there was a playoff game feel to the Thursday game, with the Knights jumping on Jets netminder Laurent Brossoit and running him off the ice after a 3-0 lead in period two. The Knights then added two more goals in period two, with linemates Reilly  Smith and William Karlsson each notching their second goals of the game on Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck. Here’s Smith postgame.

The Knights drew a huge crowd for their 37th home game. The team is averaging slightly more than 18,300 fans a game in an arena that officially holds 17,367 for VGK games. That’s more than 105 percent of capacity.

Subban won his third straight game and looked solid in goal for the Golden Knights. His shutout means free Krispy Kreme donuts for fans at the game.
