The Golden Knights' Twitter handle voice, Dan Marrazza, has left the NHL club.

Voice Behind Golden Knights’ Twitter Account Leaves NHL Club Before Playoffs

Voices in the Twitter handle universe come in all attitudes and styles and nobody will ever say that Dan Marrazza, as the Twitter voice for the Vegas Golden Knights hockey club, was boring.

Tuesday night, Marrazza used his personal Twitter account to say he has left the Golden Knights.

I enjoyed the few times I chatted with Marrazza, who, like myself, attended a small private college in a central New York state section called the Finger Lakes. Marrazza went to Ithaca College, and I survived those long winters up the road 45 miles at Hobart College in Geneva.

Marrazza fulfilled the number one job requirement for a major league team Twitter trigger man and that was never to be boring while creating a buzz for the brand.

The punmaster’s love for the Golden Knights flowed through his team Twitter handle, with a buffet of quirky pop culture anecdotes, profound team rooting and a few playful pokes at the Knights’ foes on ice.

Marrazza’s signature Twitter style drew some nice profiles and gave the rookie NHL club an identity in the Twitter world.

I’ll let Marrazza share his thoughts for leaving, which he posted around 8:30 p.m.  Tuesday on what else, Twitter:

“I have some personal news to share. Last week, I left my position with the Vegas Golden Knights. Living in Las Vegas the past two years and having the opportunity to grow this new brand from scratch has been a once in a lifetime opportunity. (1/3)

“I want to thank the city, the team and especially the fans for a lifetime of memories – having the chance to represent you on Twitter dot com has been a privilege. (2/3)

“As for what’s next, I’ll channel my inner Vegas with these words from Frank Sinatra: “The best is yet to come.” Looking forward to sharing more about my next endeavor soon. (3/3)”

Back in September, Marrazza rattled the San Jose Sharks’ Twitter cage after the Sharks’ Twitter writer said the team was up on the Golden Knights because it was 104 degrees in the Bay Area while it was 102 in Las Vegas Sept. 1.

And to that Marrazza responded, “Because everybody knows how good @SanJoseSharks  are at holding leads.”

Whoa nellie!

You can read the LVSportsBiz.com story on that Twitter duel.

Marrazza dipped into his bag of pop culture movie references, specifically the movie, “Ted,” when he referred to the Bruins’ lines with girl names instead of the actual players’ names. That caused a stir, and he caught some flak.

But that was the exception and Marrazza’s provided an entertaining, humor-filled and root, root, root-for-the-home team voice to the Golden Knights’ Twitter handle. And I always thought it was a voice that matched the team’s identity — never boring and always an A for effort.

I took a glance at the team’s Twitter account today and there were functional posts about popular defenseman Brad Hunt being nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy and the team holding its annual spring break street hockey tour. It was press release fare and there’s nothing wrong with that.

But from the way the words were linked together, it wasn’t the signature Marrazza Twitter delivery.

Bye Dan. You got talent and you’ll find another home for your creativity in Las Vegas if that’s your goal. Best of luck to you.
