Just three days after the UNLV sports folks broke ground for a $28.5 million football training center, the UNLV Soccer Foundation released drawings for a new soccer venue that has a projected cost of under $20 million.

Check out the conceptual drawings that were posted on twitter Friday afternoon. The location is very close to Tropicana Avenue, on land bounded by Swenson Street and Paradise Road. It’s not too far from Thomas & Mack Center.

A capital campaign will commence to raise money for the UNLV soccer facility.

There’s no funding source and a capital campaign will have to be staged for the proposed soccer center, which is part of UNLV’s master plan.

Soccer is getting more of a profile here in Las Vegas now that a new professional soccer team is starting in downtown at Cashman Field. The Las Vegas Lights FC plays three preseason games on Feb. 10, 17 and 24 at Cashman and the 34-game United Soccer League season begins in March for the Lights, the USL’s 33rd team.
