LAS VEGAS, Nevada — A decade ago in Las Vegas, who could have imagined that the NHL would stage a Stanley Cup Final game on the Strip on the same day that Major League Baseball has a big league ballgame in Summerlin?
That’s exactly what’s happening on June 9 when the Vegas Golden Knights host the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final at the same time of the MLB Athletics hosting the Milwaukee Brewers at Las Vegas Ballpark, the Triple-A home of the Athletics’ affiliate, the Las Vegas Aviators.
That’s how Las Vegas rolls these days.
The A’s are coming to Las Vegas full-time in 2028 when the historic American League club expects to open a 33,000-fan domed stadium at the old the Tropicana hotel-casino site on the Strip. But they’re giving their future home market a taste of A’s baseball with six regular season games at Las Vegas Ballpark. The Brewers play the A’s June 8-10 and then the Colorado Rockies visit Summerlin for a three-game series against the A’s June 12-14.
The A’s know Las Vegas Ballpark from playing spring training games there during Big League Weekend in March.
The A’s are playing at a Triple-A minor league baseball stadium, Sutter Health Park, in West Sacramento while the $2 billion stadium is built on the Strip. A 2023 state law approved by Nevada lawmakers earmarked $380 million in public assistance to help the A’s build their stadium.
There was a convergence of the NHL Golden Knights and the A’s stadium financing bill at the state legislature in June 2023 when the lawmakers were discussing the stadium legislation while the VGK were playing in the postseason as legislators kept track of the VGK game. The Knights went on to win the Stanley Cup that June in 2023 over the Florida Panthers.
The VGK today said a limited number of single-game tickets for the 2026 Stanley Cup Final will go on sale to the general public beginning Tuesday June 2 at 12PM PT. Single-game tickets can be purchased by visiting this link.
The Knights and Hurricanes play Game 1 of the Cup Final on Tuesday in Raleigh, NC.
The A’s are playing the Yankees this weekend in West Sacramento.
