LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Well, it was a short night for Vegas Golden Knights goalie Adin Hill.

The Utah Mammoth, the former Arizona/Phoenix Coyotes team, scored three goals on three shots in the first eight minutes and 12 seconds. That prompted VGK coach Bruce Cassidy to yank Hill and replace the goalie who made his sixth straight start with off-the-bench specialist Akira Schmid.

After getting blanked by Buffalo two nights ago, Vegas was shut out by Utah goalie Karel Vejmelka and trailed, 3-0, after one period on the first two Utah goals by Clayton Keller and the third by Jack McBain.

Utah added an empty-netter in the third period for the 4-0 win over Vegas Thursday.

VGK owner Bill Foley and Vegas Hockey Operations President George McPhee could not be happy after the first period.

Just the facts:  Utah Mammoth 4  Vegas Golden Knights 0

Golden Knights goal scorers: none

VGK coach Bruce Cassidy’s postgame quote: “I’m concerned (players) turned down opportunities to shoot (the puck) . . . We’re off net way too much. Hit the net more often. Take the shots that are there.”

VGK record: 31-24-14 for 76 points in 69 games; Hill is now 8-8-3; Knights in third place in division, two points behind Anaheim and a point behind Edmonton.

Attendance: 17,875

Next games for VGK: In Nashville Saturday and in Dallas Sunday. Next home game is against Edmonton March 26.
