LAS VEGAS, Nevada — A’s owner John Fisher said he expects the workforce at the A’s stadium construction site on the Strip to increase to 1,500 workers.
“If I miss a week, I miss a huge amount of progress in the construction of the stadium,” Fisher told LVSportsBiz.com before spring training Game 2 of the A’s vs Angels at Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin Sunday. “It’s amazing what happens day-to-day.”
Here’s Fisher responding to LVSportsBiz.com about the $2 billion, 33,000-fan, domed stadium at the former Tropicana hotel-casino-site at Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue.
Fisher said ticket sales and sponsorships will be main revenue drivers at the stadium, while he noted the team is in discussions with companies about a naming rights deal for the baseball stadium that is slated to open in 2028. The A’s ar paying in a Triple-A ballpark in West Sacramento in 2026 and 2027.
A’s manager Mark Kotsay advised the stadium doubters to go in person to the site on the Strip and see for themselves that the stadium is going up. Kotsay added the lower bowl construction is already evident.

Kotsay, who is signed through 2028, the Athletics’ inaugural season in Las Vegas, also responded to an LVSportsBiz.com questions about the A’s holding two three-game series against the Colorado Rockies and Milwaukee Brewers in June in Las Vegas at Las Vegas Ballpark, the home of the Athletics’ Triple-A affiliate, the Las Vegas Aviators.
“These six games will give (Las Vegas) a little taste,” Kotsay told LVSportsBiz.com. “Obviously in June we will see how the weather holds up.”
Both Kotsay and Fisher have bought houses in the Las Vegas metro area.
We saw A’s president Marc Badain before the game. But we thought we’d give him a break and not ask him any questions today.
As for the preseason game, the A’s won, 7-4, with another monster sellout crowd of 10,606 at the ballpark.
