LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Things got off to a funky start for the Vegas Golden Knights tonight in their game against the St, Louis Blues.
The puck took a bizarre bounce off the back wall boards behind the Knights goal and VGK goalie Akira Schmid had no clue where the puck landed. The puck came right to St. Louis center Robert Thomas who deposited the puck into the empty net while Schmid was looking the other way.
The Blues goal came a mere 55 seconds into the game.

But the Knights then took over the game.
Vegas tied the score later in the first period on a goal by Mitch Marner, then added goals by Jack Eichel and Shea Theodore in the second period for a VGK 3-1 lead over St. Louis after 40 minutes.
And the Knights skated off the ice with a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Blues with the VGK reporting attendance at 17,955. It was Vegas’ third straight win.

Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said Schmid is taking advantage of his opportunity with injuries to goalies Adin Hill and Carter Hart.
“We need it right now,” Cassidy said of Schmid’s contributions.

The Blues mustered only 11 shots through the first two periods.
A VGK lowlight was when red-hot Mark Stone, who entered the contest with goals in six straight games, got rocked in a fight in the first period.

In the third period, VGK’s Pavel Dorofeyev was boarded/cross-checked by the Blues’ Tyler Tucker but somehow the ref called the penalty on Dorofeyev.
St. Louis scored on the power play and the VGK lead was cut to 3-2 in the final period.
The Blues had a mere two shots on goal during the first 16 minutes of the third period.
Stone picked up his seventh goal in seven games when he scored an empty-netter to wrap up the 4-2 win. Vegas improved to 20-11-12 for 52 points and plays San Jose Sunday in California.
