LAS VEGAS, Nevada — All bicycle rides are wonderful.
But this mass two-wheeled road outing of more than 400 cyclists was different Saturday morning.
This bike ride from the Clark County government center parking lot in downtown Las Vegas began with a moment of silence for those who coped with PTSD and were no longer here to be at at the bike ride.
Minutes later, the bicyclists were pedaling out of the lot, heading down the Strip and wrapping up three different bicyclist rides in the annual Project Hero Honor Ride that honor veterans on the Saturday morning before Veterans Day every November.
“Not only do we have wounded warriors on bikes, but we also have the first responders and locals in Las Vegas participating,” Project Hero CEO Todd Setter told LVSportsBiz.com before the Las Vegas ride.
Project Hero, also known previously as Ride 2 Recovery, puts on three annual bike rides in Ohio for Memorial Day, in Tampa for the New Year’s and this ride for Veterans Day in Las Vegas. Plus, there are multi-day “Challenge” bike rides like the one in California.
The Las Vegas bike ride is also a destination event, Setter pointed out. He noted bicyclists were from Tampa, Los Angeles, Reno and San Diego.

“For veterans, it’s camaraderie,” Project Hero staffer Jen Goodbody a veteran herself, said before the bike rides.
