LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Seven companies and organizations seeking a College Football Playoff title game job from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) will find out soon the LVCVA’s selection for the consulting work for the 2027 CFP championship game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
After the LVCVA made the rare move of rebidding the “Request For Proposal” (RFP) in early June after LVSportsBiz.com revealed bid irregularities in a series of stories, six sports marketing companies and Las Vegas Events submitted bids by a July 18 deadline in hopes of winning the consulting job.
“Those materials are currently under review, and while there’s no deadline for a decision, a selection will be made in the near future,” said Molly Castano, LVCVA vice president for public relations and communications.
The seven bidders are bdG Sports, Forum Group, Las Vegas Events, Norton National, Position Sports, Propyrion and Smart Tyme Agency.
During the first round of bidding earlier this year, Position Sports and its $1.236 million bid were picked by the LVCVA in March.
After LVsportsBiz.com reported problems with the bidding process and an owner of one of the companies not picked raised issues with the procedures, the LVCVA decided in early June to put the job out to bid again. Here’s the second RFP, with the deadline extended from July 7 to July 18.
LVCVA CEO Steve Hill told the publicly-funded tourism agency board of directors July 8 that the “(bid) process did not meet our standards.”
A day earlier on July 7, a memo sent from Hill to the LVCVA’s board members said former LVCVA Vice President of Sports and Special Events Lisa Motley wanted to “hire Position Sports non-competitvely.” But Hill said the LVCVA “determined it was in the best interest of the LVCVA to engage in a competitive procurement for the services.”
Motley no longer works for the LVCVA and former LVCVA Chief Operating Officer Brian Yost is now the Las Vegas tourism organization’s new “chief sports officer.”
