LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck loves Las Vegas.

And the hyper, fast-talking, high-energy 44-year-old coach loves that Minnesota Golden Gophers donors can share steak dinners with his Minnesota players in Vegas. The man entering his ninth year at Minnesota said he will be at Prime at the Bellagio tonight.

“Viva, Las Vegas baby,” Fleck said during his 15-minute Media Days chat Wednesday.

Fleck was the first of six coaches to speak at Big Ten Media Days today. The Big Ten is spending three days at Mandalay Bay to allow coaches and players from 18 schools spanning the country from Rutgers to USC to chat with media members.

Fleck crammed in a lot of info in his 15 minutes and there was only time left for a single question.

Before Fleck began in 2017, Minnesota cycled through six head coaches in a dozen years. Fleck said he would bring stability and that’s what he has donem including sporting a 6-0 record in bowl games.

College football is incredibly topical because there’s daily debate on how teams (and how many teams) should be picked for the College Football Playoff tournament and chatter about Big Ten revenue-sharing and player payments.

Washington head coach Jedd Fisch talked about the Big Ten being the country’s best conference, which includes the last two national champs — Ohio State and Michigan, which defeated Washington in its title game.

James Franklin, Penn State’s ball coach in his 12th season, wrapped up Wednesday’s lineup of head coaches. He, like the coaches, thanked their families, praised university adnministration and talked up the players they brought along. Franklin even thanked the media for telling the stories of college football.

On the topic of stadiums, Northwestern head coach David Braun talked about playing games at the temporary 12,000-seat stadium on Lake Michigan being used while the school’s football stadium is getting a modern renovation.
