LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The MLB Athletics, planning to open a new 30,000-seat domed ballpark on the Strip in 2028, are working on a radio deal to broadcast A’s games in Las Vegas.

The A’s have moved from Oakland and plan to play in a Triple-A ballpark in West Sacramento in 2025, 2026 and 2027 while their $1.75 billion stadium is built at the old Tropicana hotel-casino site at the southeast corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue. Crews are removing rubble from the site, with the A’s saying a groundbreaking will happen in either April, May or June.

A’s said this week that the team and iHeartRadio have reached a deal to broadcast all regular season, spring training, and any potential postseason games on Talk 650 KSTE as well as on A’s Cast as part of the iHeart Radio Network.

Longtime A’s radio voice, Ken Korach, returns for the 2025 season. Joining Korach are Johnny Doskow and Chris Caray. A’s games will also continue to air in the Bay Area on iHeart Sports 960.

The A’s have sold out 6,500 season tickets at the 10,000-seat minor league ballpark, which is used by the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A team, the River Cats. The Athletics’ Triple-A team, the Aviators, play here in Las Vegas at Las Vegas Ballpark in Downtown Summerlin.

The team had a table at a recent Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce event in January and has made donations to Little League teams in Nevada. The A’s plan to also have an office in the Las Vegas market.

In early December, the Las Vegas Stadium Authority Board approved several A’s stadium agreements like development, lease, community benefits and non-location deals. The A’s stadium is slated to be connected to a new adjacent hotel-casino to be built by Bally’s Corp. that will be connected to the ballpark via a pedestrian bridge. Bally’s chairman Soo Kim told LVSportsBiz.com he hopes the new hotel will be complete by the time the A’s stadium opens for the 2028 MLB season.

The A’s believe they can build their ballpark on only nine of the site’s 35 acres.

The A’s stadium point man is Sandy Dean, the team’s representative at stadium board meetings in Las Vegas now that former A’s president Dave Kaval resigned in late December. Dean is interim team president.

The next Las Vegas Stadium Board meeting is March 6 at 3 PM at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
