Some fans who purchased tickets to attend the big Mountain West championship game between Boise State and UNLV in Boise Friday received responses from Ticketmaster that their tickets were no good and that they will be refunded.
A UNLV fan who bought a ticket posted this response from Ticketmaster on social media:
Boise State issued this statement:
“We’re aware of the issue that some have experienced with tickets purchased for the MW Championship on Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster has refunded any purchases for the 230 affected buyers, and we are actively communicating with them. Anyone who was affected will have access to tickets for the game on Friday night so they can be a part of the great championship experience.”
Boise State spokesperson Chris Kutz said by the end of Tuesday there were 74 fans who needed new seats, but that number was likely less by the end of today.
Kutz told LVSportsBiz.com by email, “At the end of the day yesterday, we were down to 74 purchasers who needed to be reseated through this experience. I don’t have an updated number but safe to say it’s lower than that by this time today.”
Boise State’s stadium has space for about 37,000+ fans. Friday’s game looks like a sellout.
From Boise State’s Kutz: “We’re tracking towards a sellout but don’t have the available number as we’re awaiting any returns from UNLV, etc. to better understand available inventory.”
UNLV ‘s football program has had a historic season given its legacy of so many losing years. The Rebels have a 10-2 record and a win over Boise State Friday would likely propel this once-downtrodden program into college football’s inaugural 12-team championship playoff tournament with glamour teams like Ohio State, Georgia and Notre Dame.
Mountain West power Boise State (11-1) defeated UNLV , 29-24, in Las Vegas during the regular season and its sole loss was by only three points to top-ranked Oregon Sept. 7. If Boise State wins, the Broncos are in the college football playoff.
