LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The Las Vegas Raiders have a reputation for having many out-of-town fans at their games at Allegiant Stadium, but Election Day was a day for Las Vegas and Clark County residents to cast their ballots.
Election officials partnered with the Raiders and the NFL to use the Raiders stadium as a polling site.
Electioneering was not allowed on the stadium property. We did not witness any confrontations, vicious words or political quarreling that other polls have experienced..
Southern Nevada contributed $750 million in public dollars to help the Raiders build the domed stadium on the west side of I-15 across from the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino. Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar told LVSportsBiz.com at the stadium site that he thought the high profile of an NFL stadium hosting a polling site helped draw more residents to vote.
Here’s our interview:
Clark County did not pay for the election site at the stadium. And the Raiders declined to comment on who covered the cost for having the polling location at their stadium.
One voter told LVSportsBiz.com that she watched the stadium being built, but has not been inside the palatial venue — until today to vote.
