LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Most of the terrain outside this gambling city of a world-famous Strip and sprawling suburbs is jagged and rugged, with colors ranging from calico and tan to beige and cream.
That’s why Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs can be disorienting in the desert setting. Its four lakes, waterfowl and vegetation are an oasis where mountain biking, of all things, is a fantastic lure.
Lots of subdivsions spread from two nearby highways, but the reality is that this is a marvelous place to ride a bicycle on an array of dirt and unpaved surfaces. There are also paved trails that meander around the lakes that today had lured anglers to their edges along with geese that landed around 7:15 AM after sunrise.

The site includes a fun mini-canyon landscape for mountain bikers, plus a BMX pump track.
We pedaled along the perimeter of the mountain bike canyon area, which offers a fantastic single-track trail for those who want a mellow, easy ride.
With the park sitting on the edge of the metro Las Vegas area, it’s an inspiring escape. There are historic horse buildings and barns on the site, with architecture that’s vastly different from the neighboring residential stock along North Durango Drive.
It really is on the northern outskirts of this 2.3 million-person market. Take a look:
