Before the Golden Knights, Raiders, Aces, F1, Allegiant Stadium and T-Mobile Arena appeared on the Las Vegas sports industry landscape, there were rodeos and car racing and even golf.
Brendan Gaughan wanted to get that point across Wednesday at the South Point hotel-casino and arena where the old guard of the Vegas sports scene wanted to share the news about a sports-packed weekend that includes a NASCAR race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a PGA golf event in Summerlin and a bull riding team series title on the line at T-Mobile Arena.
Gaughan joined a host of representatives and leaders of the South Point 400 NASCAR race, the Shriners Children’s Open on the PGA circuit and the PBR Camping World Team Series Championship to promote their events in the shadow of the spotlight drawn by the VGK and Raiders.
These are the Las Vegas old time sports and everyone who spoke could not say “Las Vegas, the entertainment and sports capital of the world” enough times.
Las Vegas boosters like the statement, though Los Angeles, New York and Atlanta seem to have quite a bit going on.
The Raiders are out of town playing the Los Angeles Rams in SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, while the Golden Knights are touring Florida for games in Tampa Bay and South Florida.
