Everyone knows the Las Vegas Aces are an explosive offensive game, led by freshly-minded WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson.
But the Aces’ defense applied the clamps on the Seattle Storm in the fourth quarter of Game 1 of the Best-of-3 opening round series, smothering the Storm by limiting them to a mere two points.
That’s not a typo.
The Aces limited Seattle to only two points in the final stanza and that cleared the way for the Aces to walk out of Mandalay Bay’s Michelob Ultra Arena with a tough-earned 78-67 win in Game 1.
Aces Coach Becky Hammon has preached defense all season.
And she was pleased with the fourth quarter clamps on the Seattle offense.
“We grinded it out,” Hammon said at the postgame presser.
It all began with Aces superstar A’ja Wilson receiving her MVP trophy. Wilson had her typical MVP game with 21 points.
And helping the Aces to the win was sparkplug Tiffany Hayes, who contributed 20 points.
Game 2 is Tuesday right back here at Mandalay Bay.
