The Vegas Golden Knights completed a topsy-turvy, uneven regular season Thursday with a 4-1 loss to the hapless Anaheim Ducks at T-Mobile Arena Thursday and has drawn the top-seeded Dallas Stars in the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Los Angeles Kings leapfrogged the Golden Knights into third place in their division and claimed a higher playoff seed in the Western Conference with a 5-4 comeback win against the Chicago Blackhawks in LA, so the Kings will play the Edmonton Oilers while the VGK will face their former coach, Pete DeBoer, and the Stars.

Dallas is seen as a very complete team with a deep roster and solid goaltending. They are favored to beat Vegas in the first round.

Dallas vs Vegas is also a rematch of the 2023 Western Conference Final, won by the Golden Knights en route to their Stanley Cup title.
