Golden Knights goal scorers: Jonathan Marchessault, his 19th at 11:35; Ivan Barbashev, his tenth at 14:48; both in the first period; Barbashev, second of game, 11th of season at 17:59; Keegan Kolesar, third of season at 18:24; both in second period; Brett Howden, empty-netter for his fifth.

Story line: Rangers controlled a lot of game, but Golden Knights — with all their injuries — were opportunistic with their goals and netminder Logan Thompson played with confidence to give VGK the two points.

Standings: Vegas improves to 26-14-5 for 57 points, seven points behind first-place Vancouver (64 points).
