People sure get worked up about sports mascots, the cartoon-theme costumed performers who are part of the side show of sports events.
I haven’t seen any mascot associated with the big, hyped F1 road race event set for Nov. 18 in Las Vegas until last night when a tall dude in a crash helmet with F1 on the back and a body suit was part of the loosey-goosey pre-game scene at the charity softball game between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Las Vegas Raiders at Las Vegas Ballpark.
Take a good look at the mascot for the Las Vegas Grand Prix:
Let’s just say the reviews weren’t too promising after we posted the picture on Twitter Saturday night.
It did seem rather odd that an international sports event where hotels are selling $5 million and $1 million ticket packages to attend and the Strip was repaved as part of the race’s 3.8-mile course would be promoted by a performer in a costume that consisted of a Super Dave helmet and a getup that looked as if it was purchased at the $1.25 store.
We have contacted F1 about about the mascot and if we hear back we will share Formula One’s comments.
