The Vegas Golden Knights knocked out Dallas in Game 6 Monday to claim the Western Conference title and will host Game 1 of the National Hockey League’s championship series in Las Vegas Saturday.
It was a convincing 6-0 win over the Dallas Stars for a 4-2 WCF series clinching and their coach Pete DeBoer, who was the VGK coach until he was fired after last season.
“Great group of men,” VGK coach Bruce Cassidy said of his squad.
The NHL issued the Stanley Cup Final schedule, with the winner of the Dallas/Vegas conference final hosting the upstart Florida Panthers, champs of the Eastern Conference. Here’s how the schedule looks.
The Panthers clinched last week by sweeping the Carolina Hurricanes in four close games and have been waiting to see if the Knights would win just one more game to make the finals or if the Stars make history by winning tonight and in Vegas Wednesday to make the SCF by winning four straight after losing the first three games of the Western Conference Finals.
The Knights cruised to the win. William Karlsson scored twice, while William Carrier, Keegan Kolesar, Jonathan Marchessault and Michael Amadio also notched goals for the 6-0 win on Memorial Day.
The Golden Knights held a watch party today at Circa hotel-casino in downtown Las Vegas.
Golden Knights TV play-by-play broadcaster had the chance to chat with VGK General Manager Kelly McCrimmon about the Knights.
