The Las Vegas Raiders had an open weekend with a bye in the NFL schedule on Sunday.
So, that allowed Raiders’ receiver Davante Adams to visit another type of sports venue — one that is actually much bigger than the Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium.
Adams was the honorary pace car driver for the South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
It was a relatively pleasant day at the Speedway on the north end of the Las Vegas metro area because the fall NASCAR race is typically in September when temperatures can be hitting sweltering 100-degree levels.
But the South Point 400 was Oct. 16, which likely enhanced attendance instead of holding it in September when the heat is more intense. NASCAR along with TV rights holders and the Speedway work together on picking the date.
The number 22 car zipped across the finish line and driver Joey Logano will always remember October 16 as the day he won the South Point 400. The Team Penske driver averaged a little more than 130 miles per hour in winning the 267-lap race. Logano clinched a spot in the Championship 4.
In other news, South Point and Las Vegas Motor Speedway extended their naming rights deal for the venue’s fall NASCAR Cup Series race. South Point has been the only title sponsor of the Fall NASCAR Cup Series race since its inception at the Speedway in 2018.
Kyle Busch finished third. His brother, Kurt, who announced he was out of action, won this race in 2020.
Tempers flared between Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson after they collided.
The Speedway estimated 55,000-60,000 came to the venue this NASCAR weekend.
Las Vegas photographer Tom Donoghue provided these photos of the event.
