On this hot Sunday evening game in Las Vegas, it was a sedate crowd at the Aviators minor league ballpark in suburban Summerlin 12 miles west of the Strip.
The Las Vegas Aviators defeated the Sacramento River Cats, 6-3, thanks to a five-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning.
LVSportsBiz.com dropped in at the ballpark, a venue that cost Aviators owner Howard Hughes Corporation $150 million to build. Lucky for Texas-based Howard Hughes Corp. that the LVCVA tourism agency was in a giving mood and authorized a stunning $80 million for Howard Hughes in the form of a naming rights deal. Thus, the ballyard in Downtown Summerlin is “Las Vegas Ballpark.”
The interesting thing about ballparks is that they lend themselves toward terrific photographic images because of the natural light changes at sunset, the geometry of the field and the personal nuances of people who want a night out.
